archeology vs. the bible... another observation for creationists to consider...?
if one is to look at the bible as a source of factual information, particularly in the book of genesis, then one must also accept that early man was well-learned in metallurgy. in fact, only 3 generations past adam was born tubal-cain, who was "an instructor of every craftsman in bronze and iron". this means, without even a primative sense of mining and refining metals, within only 3 generations people learned all they need to know about crafting bronze and iron. is it just me, or does this seem like one needs a fantastic stretch of the imagination to accept this as being literal? i mean, consider all that we have from archeological digs, which show many generations of simple tools which did not use metal of any kind. wouldn't it seem a bit absurd if people went directly from using arrowhead, to using swords in a matter of a generation or two?
Then too, the early iron age started about the same time that the Jewish civilization starts showing up in the archaeological record. So, by the time the Bible was being written, iron working had been around for at least 600 years.
