what would a good career for me be in fashion (i don't like magazines)?
I don't like (at least american) fashion magazines, for example the beauty tips and celebrity gossip ~ I can't stand that stuff. But, I love art & fashion. I don't like to sew though, and don't really want to be an "artist." I think I'd like to write about fashion, but I don't really want to edit a magazine (like I said, I don't read magazines & don't really like most of the topics, but I've heard the European ones are more "artsy")
Does anyone have any advice? sorry if i'm a bit confusing, i'm a bit confused & I really could use some help
ps i love to travel esp around europe so that's why i thought maybe some sort of fashion writing (but not beauty or makeup tips like you would find in a supermarket mag. if you know what i mean)
cheers!
You could check into the following fashion-related careers:
- Advertising and marketing communications
- Fashion merchandising management
- Fashion marketing
- Cosmetic and fragrance marketing
- Fashion management
- Being a buyer for a fashion retailler
Marketing careers, especially, require a lot of writing talent and a strong interest in the items that you are promoting.
One of the top schools in fashion-related industries is the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC. They offer both design-related (not for you) and business-related (perhaps for you?) majors. I've attached their website, below, so you can explore.
