i had someone walk up to me when i was done dancing at a powwow and they asked me if i drank lysol aor listerine,i mean i understood the joke but it was really mad that pwople would do things like that. yesterday i was at a indian restaraunt and these people were talking about Squas and so before i left i went over there and told them i didnt appretiate their joke and they all pretended like they didnt no what i was talking about, so then we left when we were done eating and my sister went bac in to see if she left he phone on the table and the people who were making the jokes were like bob your car probably on fire now and he was like no no my car is fine, when my sister walked by she said you might wanna go chexck out your car(we didnt touch his car) so has anything ever happened to you even if you arnt native american and how did u handel the situation,did i handle it well???

As a Native person, if I'm not too insulted, I try to use it as an opportunity to educate the person and dispel the stereotype they're using. But I usually can't help but throw in some good ol' sarcastic humor too. 
For example, when someone learns that I grew up on a reservation, I often get "Did you live in a tipi?" My response is usually, "Actually, my people are Eastern Woodlands and we didn't live in tipis. We lived in wigwams or wetus. But now we live in houses just like everyone else. And besides, you're white. Do you live in a trailer?"
You have to handle it with dignity and take it in stride. There are a lot of ignorant people out there who will never change their point of view. And you need to pick your battles.
I think you handled it just fine. Sometimes you just need to smile and walk away and just feel sorry for some people's ignorance.
