Thanks for all your help. if you dont have a lagit answer, and u just want to be rude, then dont answer~
What you have asked would take a book to answer in any degree of detail.
Living conditions on the Four Corners Reservation are not very good, by Western standards. Most, but definitely not all, of the tribe lives there, but there are other enclaves of Navajo.
The Four Corners Reservation is a large parcel of arid land centered on the intersection of Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, and Utah. The Navajo are mostly in N.M.
Not going to go into answering no. 4. A good fictional writer (who recently died, dammit) was Tony Hillerman. Read his Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee novels, all set on the Rez, and you will learn much of the People, and have a good read while you do.
The People do not point with their fingers; a nod of the head or a thrust of the chin in the desired direction instead.
It is considered a bad thing to say the name of someone who has died. When a Navajo dies, all that is good in a person goes back to the Creator; all that is bad remains behind, a chin'di. Evil spirits. A Navajo will avoid, at all costs, touching the dead.
But just as with many religions, there are 'Modern" Navajo, "Reform" Navajo, and Traditional Navajo. Tensions exist between them, but not outright fighting.
Oh, and do not offer to shake a Navajo's hand, unless he/she puts a hand out first. When visiting at someone's house, it is considered polite to stop at a distance from the house/hogan/trailer to allow the person you are visiting time to tidy up, whatever, and only approach the house when the person comes to the door or out on the porch.
