For the longest time I have had a bit of a problem with Hollywood consistently casting White actors to play ancient Egyptians. Examples include Cleopatra, The Ten Commandments, Manequins I and II, and the Mummy Movies (thankfully not the Scorpion King movies). I mean Egypt is a country located on the African landmass as such most people native to that continent are fairly dark skinned. So why does Hollywood have such a problem with this?
To be fair, the Mummy movies were intentionally campy and inaccurate.
I'd say it has more to do with the talent pool available in Hollywood than anything else.
It's not just the humans that are misrepresented, either. When's the last time you ever saw a movie set in a desert that used actual desert scorpions? 99% of them use rainforest species because they're cheap and easier to find.
