I have a small antique store and have come across some black americana memorabilia that I plan to put out for display and sale. Some of it is so racist- such as captions on old postcards etc. There are offensive words- the "N" word and so forth. I need help to write a disclaimer- I want to emphasize that although we definitely don't agree w/ the substance and don't want to offend, it is a part of our history or heritage... please help me write this, I'm just stumped as to how to phrase it. Thanks so much!
These are valuable historical artifacts and popular collectors items, especially among African-Americans (in my experience as a collector of Americana). If you think some customers might be offended, I would display a card saying something like "These are historical artifacts. The comments and stereotypes depicted here obviously do not reflect the attitude of management."
