my whole family are "authentic" natives. it does not depend on living as some relic from the past. i'm college educated and work for a worldwide corporation that relies heavily on computer technology. i am also enrolled in the mohawk nation and still live as i was taught and believe as it was passed down to me. i know authentic natives who are christian. i don't agree with them, but it does not make them less native..just a pain in the a** (my opinion). if a person is known within an actual native nation and accepted as belonging, then they are native. if not, then they aren't. just like family. i can claim to be a member of your family as much as i want, but if you have no idea who i am, then am i really family?
