help with mexican black king snake shedding?
what does my king snake need to shed his skin and what can i do to help??
to help snakes go through a shed i usually leave the snake alone until the shed is complete this includes not handling, not touching, not cleaning the vivarium (except when there is fecal matter on the substrate or if the cage has not been cleaned out for a long period of time usually a month), increase the humidity, create more hiding areas (snakes can feel a little uncomfortable (as the old skin starts to separate from the new skin underneath the old one) and feel vulnerable while going through a shed cycle, but things in the vivarium such as rocks and plastic/artificial grass to rub against when its time to shed also try to reduce the noise around the snake (reduces stress).
to increase humidity;
mist 2-3 per day
you could create a humid hide but are not essential
usually i leave a dish with moist kitchen towels over/under the heat source, as the heat source heats the dish it warms up the damp towels make the humidity boost up and for longer periods of time. (use a plastic dish not ceramic they tend to heat up quite hot)
