Can anyone tell me how they were made? I know porcelain is used but what about the blue?
Ming porcelains continued the long tradition of porcelain ware in China. Ming ware used bright colours, including deep red, ruby, jade green, bright yellow and peacock blue. Duocai (tuo-ts'ai) types used blue and white under glazes with multicoloured glaze. Wucai (wu-ts'ai) or polychrome ware used bright colours and sharp contrasts. The Ming especially perfected the technique of decorating porcelain with under glazes in cobalt blue and copper red. These techniques included transparent over glaze enamel painting, enamel glazes, glazes over carved coatings known as slips, and combinations of painting and carving techniques. Bold floral patterns were popular.
