Im thinking either the BUCK Zipper or the BUCK Omni Hunter. Im not sure which one to get and or which one is better. Should i think of any other knives to get?
Buck is a good knife and you won't go wrong with one. I was trying to remember what the Zipper looks like. I think it is one that has the gut hook on it. If that is the case, don't get that model. The gut hook is not all that effective and is pretty hard to keep sharp. There are two things that I recommend that anyone buying a knife to look out for. The first is the gut hook for the reasons that I have given. The other is a serrated edge on a knife. It is of minimal value and it, too, is hard to sharpen. What you want is a short bladed knife of about 4 inches with enough belly to it to make it a good skinner. Be sure that it has a non-slip handle. A hand guard is fine but I find that it gets in my way. I prefer a Kriton handle. They don't get slippery when they have blood on them and are easy to clean. If you like fixed blade knives, that's fine but I prefer a folder for deer size animals. I also use a small hatchet to cut the pelvic bone and to chop off the legs. It is not necessary but I find it handy. The down side of a folder is that it is not as easy to clean as a fixed blade knife but it is easier to carry.
While I really do like the Buck knives, and I have a couple of them, my all time favorites are a folder made by SOG and the Master Hunter made by Cold Steel.
