Weapons on Airplanes and public transits.?
Here is the thing. I want a big response and uproar on this by tons of people. Because I think it's a plausible issue. One of these days it's going to happen again. I myself used to be a small petty thief and stole some things back in the day. The other day i was cleaning my wallet out. And realized I still had the razor blade in there I used to use to cut things open with. I pitched it of course. But the thing is I've walked into a court house 4 times and also into MEPS. I've noticed they always have you put your wallet and keys in the box and walk through. They never check that or notice. Now isn't it possible for someone to fold up a small pocket knife or hand made razor blade weapon and put it in there. We need to have a much stronger security system.
The only way to be absolutely certain that no one brings any dangerous object onto a plane or some public transport system is to forbid ALL carry on luggage and to have everyone travel naked - after a body cavity search. If those are the lengths to which you think any country should go to protect people, then go ahead and advocate for those kinds of rules. Don't think you will find much support there.
People need to stop being so afraid of everything. You are so much more likely to be killed in a car accident, a slip in the bathtub, a heart attack or choking on a piece of food than you are from some terrorist.
Politicians and the media are very good at creating unreasonable and irrational fear and panic, but mostly useless at providing rational solutions, or providing the kind of context in which potential dangers should be viewed.
The political discourse about danger is self-contradictory: "We must have more stringent security mechanisms in place and keep track of many thousands of people who might be terrorists", and at the same time, "We have to cut taxes and shrink the government so it doesn't take away our rights and interfere so much" - - - Those are mutually exclusive goals. But the politicians cannot seem to hold more than a single thought in their heads at one time, so they spout off whichever one most appeals to their audience at the moment.
If you have thoughtful, rational, practical ideas on how to increase security, please feel free to post them. You may find an interested audience.
