What weapons system(s) do you utilize for home defense and for everyday carry?
For the home defense I keep a 12 gauge pump with the magazine loaded, chamber empty, and a 9mm auto with one in the pipe and decocked to DA trigger pull.
For everyday carry, I keep a tactical folding knife clipped in my front right pocket for quick access or clipped in my waistband concealed for a more low profile/element of surprise.
What weapons system do you deploy in these situations?
FMJ only for the 9mm in case I hit a fanily member on accident
home defense:
H&R Model 922 .22LR revolver, 9 shot loaded but not cocked near my pillow, next to my bed
this is the only pistol I feel I'm even remotely halfway decent with. I have 2 pistols, I'm new to pistol shooting, and my accuracy is less than satisfactory. but I feel, believe, and have been able to get 5" groups at 7 yards consistently with this revolver. before I bought a pistol I used to have one of my painted airsoft pistols there. the airsoft pistol looked real, felt real, and hopefully would bluff well enough until I can get to my REAL home defense gun.
I have a WASR-10/63 GP sporting rifle hidden in storage nearby.
Its an cheap AKM variant. I don't need to tell people I have a gun because they can see that for themselves. anyone stupid enough to engage me wielding that rifle I believe they would of fulfilled the "great bodily injury" requirement for self defense with a firearm as required my California law. And most of all, I believe it sets a "standard" for the type of people to rob my house. anyone who wants to come back needs to out-gun and out-number me, also whatever they're stealing better be worth it. and I don't think my TV or my computer is wroth remotely that much. its not like I'm growing pot in my house. the average criminal should just leave me alone, I'm out of their league.
I store it unloaded, magazines removed but nearby. 310 rounds in magazines, all of them Yugo military surplus FMJ.
I'm not too worried about hitting other people besides my intended target, I have all the areas of my house charted out, if you point an any direction in my house I can tell you whether its safe to shoot in that direct and what exactly is behind that spot on the wall.
with my rifle I can dish out any level of firepower- from precise head shots to a colossal amount to keep a gang of invaders at bay. its high penetration is both a disadvantage and advantage. should be house become a shooting galley and the Bad guys are just pouring lead at me, I can shoot thru a wall, furnishings, and even the floor (2nd floor to 1st floor) to try and hit them. disadvantage is that i need to think where my bullets might go before i open up.
I can't carry, as it's illegal to open carry a pistol and concealed carry permits are impossible to get in CA unless you're a cop or an armed guard.
a back up rifle I have around is my Mosin Nagant 91/30. its for when things really get serious. (if ever) its long, big, and heavy. is a good bat or spear (with bayonet it nearly as long as I'm tall). accurate for longer ranges to about 300 meters, powerful (on par with .308 Winchester), and very high penetration abilities. Despite its length its not that hard to maneuver in the house (i practiced). this rifle can shoot bulelts that can defeat body armor (should the bad guys have Kevlar on), penetrate 1" of mild steel at 25 yards (maybe disable a car?), and in tests, is the type of gun that can shoot bullets thru an entire house. In the front, out the back. Its overkill for home defense unless I lived in a really bad neighborhood. which I don't. But, well you never know if one of the neighbors is secretly growing pot in their house and the gangs come to visit... or brewing meth.
