What would be a good name for a katana?
I was thinking some thing along the lines of:
Blooming/In Blossom Chery Blossoms
Whispering Cherry Blossoms
Whispering winds
Blade of Blossoms
Blade of Blossoming Cherries
Blossoming Blade Of a Thousand Winds
Also, can you put this into Japanese, Kanji and Romanji, thanks! I'm thinking about getting a Katana and I want to give it a special name.
or
Sweet Blossoms Of a Thousand Winds
I'm planning on BUYING a sword and naming it.
I know what a katana is, I can assure you
Katanas were considered masculine, and traditional katana names have mostly been masculine.
A lot of katanas are named -maru, because -maru is a name suffix meaning "boy."
Working backwards, a katana was considered part of a samurai's soul, and with samurai being men, named katanas had masculine names.
The traditional weapon for women was the naginata, and treasured naginatas actually do bear feminine names.
A feminine counterpart to -maru is -komachi (not used in real girl's names but often bestowed as a title), especially when beauty and grace are implied. A -gozen name can suggest nobility. Something like Sakura-komachi or Sakura-ranbu-komachi or Harukaze-gozen or Hanabira-gozen.
A katana with a feminine name would still be strange, though.
