Is there a way to strip paint off furniture without stripping off the finish underneath?
My grandmother handed down to me some lovely antique mahogany furniture that she unfortunately painted a few decades ago. She did not strip the finish before she painted, however, and judging from the way she usually does projects, I really doubt that she even primed it. Is there some way that I could gently remove the paint without damaging the finish underneath?
May be! If you are lucky the top layer is latex paint and the original layer is not. There are a great number of paint removers that will only remove latex and not oil base. Take a small piece or a drawer to a pro paint store and ask them. They may have some one on staff that can take a look and offer advise. Try starting on a hard to see spot and see if it works.
