is any of this stuff pointless or a waste? and is there anything fun to do during the times when we dont gotta do anything?

Let me answer your last question first: A deck of cards and maybe some plastic poker chips would be lightweight and cheap, and could provide hours of entertainment, especially if you raise the stakes by playing for the right to choose the dinner menu or to see who has to chop the next batch of firewood.

Now, to the supplies: I noticed on the version of this question in the Camping forum that you do not want to take tents or blankets, and yet I don’t see anything on this list to serve the same purpose: No tarps, no hammocks, no sleeping bags, not even a buffalo-hide cape. In northern Indiana in November? Clearly, you are trying to prove something, but I’m not sure what it is. A group of kids trying to sleep in subfreezing temps for an entire week with nothing between them and the elements except 3 days worth of clothes (you don’t say how many layers you are counting as a “day”; hopefully not just one), and maybe a few pine branches they manage to chop down. Not even a cheap plastic painter’s drop cloth, which would cost little and take up almost no space or weight. I hope your clothes are at least made from fibers that insulate even when wet, because chances are good they’ll all be damp halfway through the week.

I have never known any serious outdoorsman to go out this unprepared. I think this is a bad idea, unless you and your friends plan to spend your “camping” trip building a log cabin, in which case you won’t have much time to play poker. Minimalist is one thing, but blunt refusal to prepare for the weather conditions is another.

At least bring one tarp to put over your firewood so you always have some dry fuel to get your fire going, no matter how hard it rains, and another tarp to rig up to keep your body heat in at night. They are lightweight and take up very little space. Mylar "survival blankets" are a great addition, but at least the tarps.
