What does a marking saying FILLED on the base of a silver candle holder mean?
Hi, I bought a silver candle stick thinking it was solid silver - it has a hallmark of the lion passant and everything to signify solid sterling silver. There is also a marking saying FILLED inside a rectangle. I was wondering what it means?
I am familar with Filled Gold, or Gold Fill and Rolled Gold being very thick gold plate, but I can find almost nothing on the internet about Rolled Silver or Filled silver apart from a few references to it being used on fountain pens. I can find nothing about the FILLED marking next to the hallmark for solid silver. Does anyone know? I think it may mean that the base is weighted or its like Golf Fill for Silver, or something I haven't thought of.

No definitive answer. I have a few 'solid' sterling silver candlesticks from over 100 years ago until 1975. All are weighted for balance after inspection whether they say 'filled' or not. None silver material on the examples I have is 20-40% so don't pay over the odds.
