what would happen if i got caught with a knife in my pocket?
i just wanted to know what would happen if i got caught carry around a knife in my pocket by the cops. its just a regular knife i bought at big 5. its no switch blade or anything. its no illegal knife.
im 17 and i like to carry it for self defensive. just in case some one wants to jack me or something when i am walking home.
i just want to know if i would get sent to jail or get fined. Also i would like to know from a minor consequence and adult consequence.
o btw how could i carry a knife and not get in trouble.
thank u.
I have to say, I don't know your local laws, but I think carrying a knife as your only form of defence is a very bad idea! I'm not going to tell you what to do, but here's my take on it:
A knife, being a short-range, lethal weapon should ONLY be drawn if you feel it's the ONLY way to escape with your life. If you introduce a knife into an unarmed fight, you have to be aware that the chances of YOU being killed are also dramatically increased. The first reason you have more chance of being killed is simply that if the other person has any sort of weapon (which they probably will if they're jacking you), then that's when they're going to reveal it. Do not expect that people are going to back down or run away just because you've got a knife! If they draw a weapon, overpower you, take the knife from you, or you get involved in a struggle where you injure yourself with your knife, then you're in a much worse situation than you would have been if you didn't draw the knife.
Also, you have to be prepared for the fact that killing the other person is a very real possibility. Even without the psychological and legal consequences that may have, you have to ask yourself whether it's right to take someone's life over a bit of cash or an iPod or whatever it is you have that they want? Is killing someone to keep an iPod really that much better than killing somebody to take an iPod?
Let me say that I'm not against an armed populous, or the use of lethal force to defend life or even property (and I'm in a country that, sadly, is against this); I just want to make sure the asker and all those other people that carry knives as their sole means of defence know what they're getting themselves into! I think a lot of these people think that a) a knife is a non-lethal weapon and/or b) it's sufficiently intimidating to prevent an attack. You cannot count on either of these being true!
In closing, any sort of weapon is better than no weapon at all, but when it comes to knives, you should ONLY EVER DRAW THEM AS AN ABSOLUTE LAST RESORT.
