I am looking for a non-locking stainless steel pocket knife. My father is very traditional and hates pocket knives that lock once they are open. I want to buy him a new one because the one he has now is like 15 years old and really beat up, but he wont use it if it locks or if its not stainless steel. So far, all the shops around here sell ones that lock.. or the little cheap shops sell ones that dont but they are not stainless steel. Also, i have searched ebay, and amazon and its hard to tell if it locks or not. Is there a correct term for the ones that dont lock once open? Any help would be greatly appreciated, but please dont bother posting to tell me that non-locking knives are unsafe.
The type of knife you're looking for might be referred to as "friction folder" or "friction folding" knives, as the blade is held in place in the open position solely by friction of the hinge.
