Where can I get a decent motherboard, processor, ram combo to build a computer edged toward gaming ?
I'm looking to spend less than $250 and would prefer an athlon dual core. There's so much out there I just need some opinions as I am a newb at building my own pc. I already know what type of video card, power supply, and disk drives I want. Don't just say "ebay" point me in the right direction and tell me why I should buy what you are telling me to buy. Thanks in advance.
newegg
http://www.newegg.com/
that should be everything you need
my set up
-core 2 quad 2.4 (i oc it to 3.0 tho)
ddr 1 gb 1000 4-4-4-10 (downclock from 1066 to get tighter timings)
8800gt 512
1tb hd
you will most likely need to spend about $300-350 if you want something decent great top of the line about 400-500 this is including every single thing you need
list of what you need
MOBO: make sure it will work with the cpu and ram you get aswell as a pci express for your video card.. and make sure it has the same pin number as the psu (20 or 24)
cpu: make sure it will work with the mobo and if its 32 or 64 bit compatable (if you have 4gb of ram or more you need 64 bit OS otherwise you cant use all the ram trust me just use 64 bit it is needed)
RAM: make sure you can use it with the video care and that you have NO LESS than 2gb @800 (you need 64 bit os... cause it takes your vram and ram and other hardware with onboard ram and if all this is more that 4gb of ram 32bit os's will not use it all thats why it sometimes says 3.5gm of ram or what not)
HD:....well you need a hard drive enough said lol
video card: make sure you get a PCI express card and that your mobo has a pci express card too
PSU: you need to have a power supply that can run everything dont get a good one that wont break very important but you dont need to spend $300 either.. 500W should be good depending on the video card just ask people how many wants you need on newegg give them your other specs that you have picked they will know what you need but 500w should be more than enough... also make sure the psu has the same pin number as the mobo.. lost have the 20+4 pins thing which means you can have a mobo with 20 or connect the extra 4 pin piece and get use it on a 24pin mobo... most mobos are 24pins
optical drive: almost forgot this i never use them any more but you might wanna get a dvd drive to install the os or for whatever... anyone will do
all other things: well you need a monitor, keyboard, mouse, maybe a wireless network card if you want... also if you want a pci sound card but most on board sound cards are really great now even coming with 5.1 surround
well that should be everything i have build tons of computers before just try to go for 64 bit os
and not xp its not so great anymore vista does have good support for drivers dont listen to people that are too scared to move over they just dont have any idea
i can also build you one it may take 2 or 3 weeks to order the parts and ship to you tho... contact me if you need any more help
