need help for an old typewriter - smith-corona?
I just got Smith-corona old typewriter.. I believe it is MODEL 5TE (the first electronic typewriter - portable one with a case).
it seems like something is not right.. the slider(where the paper is set) keeps all the way left side and won't be locked to right side nor in the middle. it stays on left side.
Then key for +/= keeps vibrating. seems like it wants to hit the ink. but it won't without touching the key. other keys won't even move when I hit any key.
I checked their website and other possible websites but since this product is way too old and i can't find any help online. I even called their repair # but no one answered.
I know this product is too old and can be broken.
but i thought i may find some advice here..
I'm really sorry I can't help you with fixing your typewriter, I don't know anything about typewriters.
I just wanted to say that you might have a better response from people with experience if you asked this question in another category. I searched through some of the older questions about typewriters on Y!A, and the majority were asked in these sections:
Computers & Internet > Other-Computers
Games & Recreation > Hobbies & Crafts
Home & Garden > Maintenance & Repairs
Consumer Electronics > Other- Electronics
You might want to try asking in one of those sections.
If you don't find what you need, you might try some of these sites. They both have email contact information:
http://www.willrepairservice.com/
http://www.mrmartinweb.com/type.htm#smithcorona (This one's actually a history of the typewriter, but it mentions the 5TE if you click on "SCM" in blue at the top. And you can email the owner of the site through a link at the top as well.)
I'm not sure how helpful this site will be, I tried searching for the particular typewriter you have but it didn't help. However, here is the general site regarding Smith-Corona typewriters:
http://www.fixya.com/support/smith_corona/typewriters
Sorry I can't help you any more than that. Best wishes, and I hope you can get some good advice from someone qualified!
