Can physicists work out the speed of things in their head?
Do you think physicists or mathematicians could work out the speed of something without writing it down? For example.. A car on the motorway, would it be in theory possible for them to mentally know the speed of a car, just by how fast it goes past a set point? Thus allowing them to calculate it in their heads instantaneously?
The same rule applies to roulette, could they in theory work out the speed and/or direction of the ball, its projection etc and work out what it's "more likely" to land on, yes?
In at least one state a judge has ruled that an experienced police officer can make a judgment about the speed of a car without the use of any equipment; his own opinion would be enough to establish speeding for a ticket.
A skilled billiards player can set up a three-rail shot by calculating in his head.
I know of a case of a crew that were using a camera and computer to calculate the likely outcome of a roulette game. That story ended badly for those boys.
A physicist uses computers, calculators, paper and pencil to make calculations. Physicists are not more skilled observers. They are just more familiar with the methods and tools for calculating. I do not know of anyone who can determine the outcome of a roulette game from clocking the dealer.
