What is the best Kind of steel for a knife?
I am thinking about buying a pocket knife with 8Cr14MoV stainless steel (equivalent to AUS 8). Is this good for everday light use. I've never bought a Knife before and don't know what is good or not good. Any help would be great.
There's no such thing as the best knife steel. There's always going to be tradeoffs between things like edge holding, toughness, corrosion resistance, etc. You can even get some tradeoffs with the same steel, tempered differently. As far as the knife you're looking at goes, I'm guessing it's a Benchmade, in which case you'll be fine. Benchmade makes good knives.
