Is this a good survival knife for the price?
Hey i just bought this survival knife for like 15$ http://www.amazon.com/Tomahawk-Silver-Handle-Survival-Knife/dp/B001CXLX9G and im just wondering if its worth the money. i didnt try and get the best thing i could find but just for a few summer camping trips. it will eventually get replaced by a ka bar. so im just wondering if it was worth the 15 dollars. ive seen some good reviews on it i just want some more opinions thanks
That would be a terrible knife. Knifes with a hollow handle filled with "survival" items break easily and the items in them are usually not very good either. Plus, if you lose the knife you also lose all your survival items. I really recommend a Leatherman Charge Tti and Victorinox Swiss Army knife (either the Camper or Hunter models - nothing bigger). Those two are perfect and you can do a lot more while camping with them than you can with any other knifes. The Victorinox is a good price, around $30 I think, but the Leatherman costs around $120 but both have a very serious lifetime warranty and the companies have very good customer service. If you really want a fixed blade the Ka-Bar is ok as long as you get the medium or small size. The large one is way too big. I have one but I never use it because I get a lot more done with Leatherman and Swiss Army knifes. If you keep your blades clean, sharp, and polished you'll be in perfect shape.
But, if you really want a low cost fixed blade survival knife, I think this Dajo Survival knife would do well in a pinch.

It has a pouch for a fire steel, some para cord, and a whistle; plus, the tang forms into the handle which makes for a stronger and more secure knife. But I would also carry the Swiss Army knife and a small personal survival kit (make one out of a small shoe polish tin and keep it in cargo pocket that way if you lost your pack you will still have it secure).
