I see a lot made out of stainless, I thought a god knife was made out of 1080 spring steel that had been heated and cooled? Not fore sure if it was 1080 or whatever that number was. And if you do have a favorite survival knife please list!
i would definitely go stainless steel or surgical stainless, but that's not very important for a survival knife. I know that if the steel has been super heated then cooled it's a lot harder, bit it's also a lot more brittle, so the blade can chip or the tip can break easily, so i wouldn't go with that. after all you see lots of stainless because it's good enough for just about anything you use it for.
ceramic blades are another option but i wouldn't use them for a survival knife because, although they can hold a sharp edge better than steel, they are way more brittle, they mostly get used for slicing meat and veggies in the kitchen. so again, i would just stick with the stainless steel but buy from a quality brand, i've got a kershaw hunting knife and it's great for me, but there's probably better ones out there.
